SNL: GOP 2012 Undeclared Candidates Debate

Crooks and Liars- By Heather
May 07, 2011 09:35 PM

Since so many of the undeclared potential presidential contenders decided to skip the first official Republican primary debate, Saturday Night Live decided to treat us to their version of the GOP 2012 Undeclared Candidates Debate, with Tina Fey returning as Sarah Palin.

The segment also featured Bill Hader as Fox’s Shepard Smith, Jason Sudeikis as Mitt Romney, Darrell Hammond as Donald Trump, Kristen Wiig as Michele Bachmann, Bobby Moynihan as Newt Gingrich and Kenan Thompson as the Rent is Too Damn High Party’s Jimmy McMillan.

As expected, Fey stole the show with her Palin impression.

SNL Returns with Christine O’Donnell as First Political Target with Masturbation Parody

Crooks & Liars- By Heather

September 26, 2010 04:00 AM

Saturday Night Live started off their season premier with having a bit of fun at Delaware Republican Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell’s expense and her remarks on witchcraft and masturbation. I await her response where she again plays the victim card like her mentor Sarah Palin and comes on Fox and tells the rest of us how that “liberal mainstream media”, otherwise known as a comedy show on NBC is picking on her.

Congrats, internet! We did it! The Betty White episode in the books and seeing her grace the Studio 8H stage was a delight. And joining her for the momentous episode was a murderers’ row of amazing SNL women: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Ana Gasteyer, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, and Rachel Dratch.

The show was filled with highlights right from the start. The cold open featured Betty in the recurring “Lawrence Welk Show” sketch – always a showcase for the female cast members. And seeing all the ladies together, surrounding their comedy godmother was a fitting way to kick things off.

Betty then came out for her monologue, getting her much deserved spotlight. While she was thrilled that Facebook was to thank for the special night, she proceeded to rip on everyone’s favorite time-waster. “In my day, seeing pictures of people’s vacations, was considered a punishment.” Gold.

Tina Fey Unveils Palin’s Next Career Move In Return To SNL (VIDEO)

Huffington Post |  Alex Leo First Posted: 04-11-10 12:20 AM

Tina Fey hosted “Saturday Night Live” this week with musical guest Justin Bieber and while the latter’s fans likely had no idea what was going on, the former reprised her role as Sarah Palin. Fey, hosting for the second time, dressed in a leather jacket and unveiled Palin’s new career path–owning her very own network. It will feature shows such as “Todd!”, “Are You Smarter than a Half-Term Governor?” and “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” (that’s right, SNL firmly landed in Team Coco).

Not only did the sketch mock Palin, her family, and the Republican Party (note the Kenneth the Pag-ing of Bobby Jindal), but it also went after the tea-partiers for their constant misspellings and grammar mistakes in their protest signs.

SNL Takes On Rahm Emanuel’s Apology For ‘Retarded’ Comment (VIDEO)

HuffPo-  First Posted: 02- 7-10 09:47 AM   |   Updated: 02- 7-10 11:21 AM

Played by Andy Samberg, Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel offered up an “Even-Tempered Apology” last night on SNL for his use of the word “retarded.” While Samberg’s impression occasionally veered toward his take on Mark Wahlberg, he captured the fiery Emanuel perfectly. Addressing Palin’s call for him to be fired, he screamed:

“You come after me on facebook? What, are your fourteen? Here’s a status update: Grow the f–k up! Poke me again, and I will write s–t on your wall so obsene your computer will cry. Go back to the tundra, you f–king gimmick!”

Samberg then summed things up succinctly: “In conclusion, boo f–king hoo. Get over it.”

Hunky Scott Brown Is Every Democrat’s Fantasy (VIDEO)

First Posted: 01-31-10 09:56 AM   |   Updated: 01-31-10 10:17 AM

In an “SNL” sketch last night, Democrats unable to find the appeal of newly elected Scott Brown were swooned by a winking, shirtless Jon Hamm. The guest host was hilarious impersonating the Massachusetts Senator, perfectly playing the role of hunk and showing up in the fantasies of Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, and others.

An infatuated Pelosi (Kristen Wiig) was quite taken with Brown’s political come-ons: “I want to introduce something to the floor. It’s called ‘Your Panties.'”

‘SNL’ Takes On The State Of The Union (VIDEO)

Huffington Post |  Dan Abramson First Posted: 01-31-10 09:27 AM   |   Updated: 01-31-10 09:39 AM

SNL took on the State of the Union last night, cutting together clips of Fred Armisen as Obama with actual shots of displeased Republicans and ecstatic Democrats.

Armisen opened the speech taking shots at Martha Coakley. “Our nominee Martha Coakley was single most incompetent candidate ever to seek public office in this nation’s history,” he announced to rousing applause from both the crowd and Joe Biden (Jason Sudeikis), adding, “Martha Coakley, you are a disgrace. You couldn’t beat Dick Cheney for mayor of Berkeley.”

The speech then moved on to address the problems that inherited from the Bush administration upon moving into the White House:

“Dishes piled high in the sink, sheets that hadn’t been washed in months – perhaps years, floors littered with candy wrappers and dust bunnies, and a fridge filled with food long past its expiration date. “

Mocking the actual response to the speech, the sketch repeatedly cut to Democrats wildly applauding, then juxtaposed them with stone-faced Republicans. But a surprise attendee, Brendan Fraser, was won over, as he reacted with his signature clap.

Armisen closed by addressing health care reform: “To be honest, I could either way on that. If you want it, pass it. Whatever, I’ll sign it. It’s your call. I really don’t care anymore.”

UPDATE:
The Salahis did not appear on SNL’s opening scene. But the show did begin with a clip lampooning the party crashers and a Secret Service of enablers.

The party-crashing couple that embarrassed the Secret Service and brought scrutiny to protocol at White House social events by getting into a state dinner may be in on the joke.

According to The Washington Post blog The TV Column, Tareq and Michaele Salahi are slated to appear in tonight’s opening skit of Saturday Night Live:

As of Thursday, the NBC late-night show was planning to open with a skit in which, with cast members playing all the parts, President Obama would give a speech with his cabinet behind him. Suddenly, he’s interrupted by the Salahis, who have crashed the speech — Michaele Salahi in a red,red sari, just like the one she wore when she and her husband allegedly crashed that White House state dinner last month.

The Salahis were asked about a possible SNL appearance on Friday, when the couple arrived in court. They were there over a dispute on a $925 landscaping bill. Tareq Slahi smiled, when he was asked about the appearance, but said nothing, according to The Warren County Report Newspaper.

Gossip Girl‘s Blake Lively is set to host Saturday’s show.

Palin 2012: SNL Gives Viewers A Glimpse Of Horrifying Future (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Huffington Post

“Saturday Night Live” combined Sarah Palin and the disaster movie “2012” last night to imagine a world in which Palin had won the presidency. They used footage from the ’08 race and Palin’s recent publicity blitz along with the trailer for the John Cusack post-apocalyptic action film to create a harrowing end-times scenario in which Glenn Beck is one step away from the presidency.

SNL Vs. Obama: Sketch Details All The President’s Failures Since Taking Office (VIDEO)

Huffington Post |  Alex Leo First Posted: 10- 4-09 08:50 AM   |   Updated: 10- 4-09 10:11 AM

“Saturday Night Live” opened its show with a particularly harsh send-up of President Obama last night. The critique focused on failed promises, as a checklist repeatedly appeared to the right of the screen that had “NOT DONE” checked off next to the following categories: global warming, immigration reform, gays in the military, limits on executive powers, torture prosecutions, closing Gitmo, withdrawing from Iraq, improving the status of the fight in Afghanistan, health care reform, etc.

“There are those on the right who are angry. They think that I’m turning this great country into something that resembles the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany, but that’s just not the case. But when you look at my record it’s very clear what I’ve done so far and that is nothing. Nada. Almost one year and nothing to show for it.”

While the president is three and a half months shy of his one year mark, we get the point. The sketch made clear that this is a critique of Obama from the left: “I just don’t see why the right is so riled up, I mean how do you think the left feels. They’re the ones who should be mad.” And the writers pointed out that with a super majority in the Senate, getting his agenda through shouldn’t be a particularly difficult undertaking.
