Protesters heckle Gonzales at Harvard reunion

by Geezer Power …8:28 PM PDT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. Student protesters, including one wearing a black hood and an orange jumpsuit, heckled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales at Harvard on Saturday, forcing him to leave the law school’s 25th reunion through an emergency door, a witness said.

Raw Story April 28, 2007

Breaking News Alerts Gonzales was at the university to deliver a lunchtime speech, a visit that was unannounced to students. Word, however, spread quickly after his motorcade and security detail was spotted.
Students gathered around as Gonzales joined fellow classmates for a reunion picture. “When the photographer was getting everybody set up and having people say ‘cheese,’ the protesters yelled: ‘say torture, instead,’ ‘resign’ and ‘I don’t recall,'” said Nate Ela, a third-year student who witnessed the incident.
Harvard Law School spokesman Mike Armini said the impromptu protest was so small that some of those attending the photo shoot did not even notice it.
The determined protesters followed Gonzales into the law school’s library, chanting “shame” and “resign” before the security detail took the beleaguered attorney general to his motorcade through an emergency basement exit, Ela said.

Forged Iraq Document Leads To Cheney!!

by- Suzie-Q @ 4:45 PM MDT

Raw Story

“the [forged] memo leads right back to the doorstep of the Vice President of the United States.”

A former CIA analyst claims that falsified documents which were meant to show that Iraq’s Saddam Hussein regime had been trying to procure yellowcake uranium from Niger can be traced back to Vice President Dick Cheney.

Appearing on MSNBC’s Tucker Carlson show, Ray McGovern who served in the CIA for twenty-seven years, said, “the [forged] memo leads right back to the doorstep of the Vice President of the United States.”

According to McGovern, former CIA Director George Tenet told his “coterie of malleable managers” at the CIA to create a National Intelligence Estimate “to the terms of reference of Dick Cheney’s speech of August 26, 2002, where Dick Cheney said for the first time Saddam Hussein could have a nuclear weapon in a year, he’s got all kinds of chemical, he’s got all kinds of biological weapons.”

Rice: Bush Would Oppose Iraq Benchmarks

by- Suzie-Q @ 1:43 PM MDT

HuffPo/AP

WASHINGTON — President Bush will not sign any war spending bill that penalizes Iraq’s government for failing to make progress, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Sunday, a fresh warning to Congress about challenging him.

Bush is expected to veto a bill this week that would order U.S. troops to begin withdrawing from Iraq by Oct. 1. Lacking the votes to override a veto, the Democratic-led Congress is considering a revised plan to pay for the way while requiring Iraq to meet benchmarks for progress.

Congress has not decided whether to punish Iraq for falling short. Rice sent lawmakers a clear message, saying Bush would not agree to a plan that penalizes the Baghdad for insufficient progress.

“To begin now to tie our own hands _ and to say ‘We must do this if they don’t do that’ _ doesn’t allow us the flexibility and creativity that we need to move this forward,” Rice said.

Democratic lawmakers, eager to wind the war down, showed little appetite for establishing goals without consequences. Iraq has struggled to keep its own promises for distributing oil wealth, refining its constitution and expanding democratic participation.

Since midsummer, the Senate Intelligence Committee has been attempting to solve the biggest mystery of the Iraq war: the disparity between the Bush Administration’s prewar assessment of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction and what has actually been discovered.

“The analysts at the C.I.A. were beaten down defending their assessments. And they blame George Tenet”, the C.I.A. director “for not protecting them. I’ve never seen a government like this.”

Who We Have To Choose From

WASHINGTON – If the presidential candidates were living the life of their idle dreams, Rudolph Giuliani would be chattering in the announcer’s booth at Yankee Stadium while Bill Richardson plays centerfield.Barack Obama and Joe Biden would be designing houses and Sam Brownback tilling the fields back in Kansas.

Good grief.

The woman charged in a federal indictment with running a high-class Washington, D.C. call girl service says she plans to call her prominent clients to testify at her trial.

Jeane Palfrey, dubbed the D.C. Madam, says among those she will call to testify are Randall Tobias, who resigned Friday as deputy secretary of state after confirming to ABC News that he had been a customer of Palfrey’s escort service.

Tobias said he “had some gals come over to the condo for a massage” but denied any sex was involved.

Also on Palfrey’s list of customers who could be potential witnesses are a Bush administration economist, the head of a conservative think tank, a prominent CEO, several lobbyists and a handful of military officials.

Kucinich launches oust-Cheney effort

WASHINGTON As Vice President Dick Cheney walked Tuesday into the Republican senators’ weekly policy luncheon, as he does nearly every Tuesday at noon, he looked as imperturbable and cryptic as ever.

No sign of concern about the blood clot in Cheney’s left leg that his doctor checked Tuesday morning (an ultrasound was reassuring, a Cheney spokeswoman said).

And no sign that he’d heard of Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, launching an effort Tuesday to impeach him on charges that he had “purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens of the United States” about a potential threat of Iraqi chemical, biological and nuclear weapons during the Saddam Hussein era and has “openly threatened aggression” against Iran.

Wolfowitz Wants $400k Before He Resigns From World Bank

by- Suzie-Q @ 8:14 AM MDT

Raw Story

Embattled World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz is allegedly working to secure a $400,000 bonus due to him on June 1 before he resigns his position, according to the blog The Washington Note.

“Allegedly on June 1st, Wolfowitz becomes eligible for some large financial bonus — for performance and time on the job. One estimate puts this figure at about $400,000,” writes Steve Clemons, who maintains the blog. “Wolfowitz wants to make sure those funds are credited to his private bank account before saying farewell….”

Clemons was provided with the information by ‘insiders’ at the Bank.

The allegation comes as the New York Times reports that Wolfowitz is negotiating a resignation deal with the Bank that will require the institution to share the blame for the ethics charges that have been lodged against the Bush appointee.
