The Daily Show: Bush Administration Officials Come Out of Their Hidey-Holes to Take Credit for Bin Laden’s Death

Crooks and Liars- By Heather

Looks like Jon Stewart was just as frustrated as the rest of us here at C&L were when we saw the Sunday show lineup this past weekend and the Bushies running as Stewart put it, “out of their hidey-holes to take credit for killing bin Laden and at the hapless Democrats for reinforcing their talking points for them.

The Revolution Will Be Televised: Comedy Central To Air, Stream D.C. Rallies (VIDEO)

Jason Linkins- Huff Post

First Posted: 10-13-10 11:31 AM   |   Updated: 10-13-10 12:23 PM

On last night’s “Daily Show,” host Jon Stewart announced that the upcoming Rally To Restore Sanity would be televised, just like the “revolution” you were promised not too long ago. And in addition to being carried live, on Comedy Central, the event will be streamed live on Comedy Central’s website. Plus, if you are the sort of people who can only watch teevee with other people, or are interested in using the Rally To Restore Sanity as an inroad to conquering your crippling agoraphobia, head on over to RallyMAO (which stands for “Rally My Ass Off,” and not “Rally Mao Zedong,” don’t get it twisted, Glenn Beck!) to find a “satellite rally” near you, where you can join people in your local community in rededicating yourself to classical Stoicism.

This is good news for all who cannot attend, and especially good news for Democrats, because I’ve been led to believe that their entire volunteer workforce for that weekend’s Get Out The Vote effort were going to be flying across the country to attend the rally, because that’s precisely the sort of wealth that’s been concentrated into the hands of campaign volunteers. Our position on this remains the same, by the way. If you’ve agreed to work for a political campaign, you should honor your commitment. And if you’re a candidate running the sort of campaign that doesn’t inspire the same fealty as a teevee show in people, perhaps you ought to consider another line of work? Thanks ever so much!

In addition, Stewart offered up many important rules for attending the Rally To Restore Sanity, including: “No nudity, no throwing stuff, and no totalitarian fascism. When in doubt, don’t be douchey.” (That last one will be a difficult task to master for any and all Congressional staffers who might be attending.)

Watch the clip for the rules, and stay for one of the better Huffington Post Bus jokes you’re likely to hear. For the record, we’ve no affection at all for the brutal, autocratic regime in North Korea, but we nevertheless see the appeal of a military culture that seems to think that their best means of intimidation is to spend all day lindy-hopping around the town square.

Meanwhile, poor Stephen Colbert! He forgot to apply for a permit for his March To Keep Fear Alive! But at the very least, he’s got important news: Rally/March merchandise! And, as Colbert has done in the past, proceeds will benefit the Yellow Ribbon Fund, a fine organization which assists our veterans in convalescence at Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval hospitals, their families and their caregivers.

Stewart Takes On EVERYTHING: Mocks Rekers’s Rentboy Romp, BP, Greece, And More (VIDEO)

Huff Post- First Posted: 05- 7-10 08:16 AM   |   Updated: 05- 7-10 08:44 AM

While it was tempting to just discuss the fact that Roland Martin inexplicably wore an ascot on national television, Jon Stewart had his hands full during last night’s opening segment. Moronic “wannabombers,” Greece’s economic downfall, George Reker’s rentboy romp, and BP’s attempt to cap the oil spill were all covered and mocked mercilessly – and hilariously.

Too much to cover here, but highlights included a demonstration of BP’s containment dome that involved Mentos, Diet Coke, and a fishing pole. As an added bonus, if you pay close attention to the “Daily Show” switchboard bit at the end, you’ll hear an operator say, “There’s no Jon Daily that works here.” Gold.

Jon Stewart: Arizona is the meth lab of democracy

Raw Story- By David Edwards
Tuesday, April 27th, 2010 — 9:23 am

Jon Stewart slammed Arizona Monday for passing a new law that would require citizens to carry proof of residency papers — a measure he likened to slavery-era laws requiring African Americans to show their papers to prove that they were free.

“It’s the same thing free black people had to do in 1863,” Stewart remarked. “Lord knows that didn’t leave any residual anger.”

He deemed the arid Grand Canyon State the “meth lab of democracy.”

Stewart pointed out even former Republican congressman Tom Tancredo, “the man Mexican parents tell their kids about to get them to eat their vegetables, thought it was going too far. Arizona, that’s gotta tell you something. It would be like Ted Nugent pleading with you to put down the guns and talk this thing out.”

This video is from Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, broadcast April 26, 2010.

Jon Stewart Revels In GOP Bondage Club Scandal (VIDEO)

Huff Post- First Posted: 03-31-10 08:31 AM   |   Updated: 03-31-10 08:41 AM

The majority of the news stories covered by Jon Stewart are of a serious tone. So while we get to reap the benefits of his satirical breakdown, he’s got to deal with the weighty stuff. But shouldn’t he get to have some fun, too?

Last night he got his opportunity. Upon hearing the RNC spent nearly $2000 at a lesbian bondage-themed strip club, “The Daily Show” ran with it. A Muppet reenactment, a correspondent totem pole, and Groucho glasses were all included. It was fantastic. Did we mention MUPPET REENACTMENT!??

Jon Stewart gets a lot of material from Glenn Beck, but the Daily Show host went all-in on Thursday night with a whopping 15-minute parody of the Fox News host.

Words don’t really do it justice, unless they’re on a chalkboard, so just enjoy the video …

Jon Stewart Exposes Fox News ‘Balance,’ Goes After Sarah Palin And Megyn Kelly (VIDEO)

Huff Post- First Posted: 03- 4-10 06:12 AM   |   Updated: 03- 4-10 07:55 AM

It looked like Jon Stewart was going for some of his bread-and-butter Sarah Palin jokes on Wednesday night, mocking her appearance on NBC’s Tonight Show and tossing in a little ribbing of Jay Leno.

But the quips about a Palin “Fair and Balanced” remark quickly turned into an amusing — if not scathing — indictment of Fox News programming, particularly host Megyn Kelly and her new mid-day program, America Live.

Stewart hounded the network about an apparent lack of balance, ranging from the show’s promos (showing a clean-cut man in a Jesus t-shirt evidently representing the right, juxtaposed with an “angry nose-ring liberal lady” pointing at his face) to the actual reporting and clips that only showed one-sided opinions from a very homogeneous group. He emphasized that this was one of the few programs held during the network’s allotted news time, as opposed to shows that are explicitly opinion.

The Daily Show segment ended with a flourish, showing clips that seemed to indicate an inconsistent approach at Fox News to polling, endorsing or dismissing polls depending on the results.

Stewart To Glenn Beck: “You’re A Communist!” (VIDEO)

Huff Po- First Posted: 02-23-10 08:13 AM   |   Updated: 02-23-10 08:25 AM

Fresh from the week off, Jon Stewart jumped right in Monday night and took on one of his favorite targets, Glenn Beck, who used his appearance at CPAC as a chance to alert the crowd of the dangers of Progressivism.

At the conference, Beck compared Progressivism to Communism, and cited previous progressives such as Woodrow Wilson and FDR, who pushed for the income tax and universal health care, respectively. Despite the former being used by elected officials to create things for the common good, Beck stressed that these were the first steps on the road to ruin.

Upon hearing Glenn Beck announce that he learned this by reading books at the library, Stewart had some choice words for the Fox News host:

“Glenn, the library isn’t free! It’s paid for with tax money. Free public libraries are the result of the Progressive movement to communally share books. The first public library was the Boston public library in 1854. It’s statement of purpose: every citizen has the right to access community owned resources. Community owned? That sounds just like communist. You’re a communist!”

Jon Stewart Bill O’Reilly Interview: “O’Reilly Factor” Welcomes “Daily Show” Host Tomorrow Night

First Posted: 02- 2-10 03:16 PM   |   Updated: 02- 2-10 06:46 PM

UPDATE: Jon Stewart appeared on The O’Reily Factor Wednesday night to weigh in on Obama’s performance and the Fox News narrative. Fox has decided to air the interview over two days. Watch Wednesday’s exchange below.

Jon Stewart On ‘O’Reilly’ (2/3/10)

Daily Show host Jon Stewart will enter the “No Spin Zone” tomorrow night when he sits down for an interview with Fox News host Bill O’Reilly. The sit down will air over two nights, tomorrow and Thursday.

This isn’t the first time the two hosts have squared off. Most recently when O’Reilly went on the Daily Show right after the election of President Obama. Click HERE to watch it.

Stewart most recently went after Fox News for its handling of President Obama’s Q&A session with congressional Republicans. While other networks aired the stunning exchange in its entirety, Fox News did not. Stewart believes that’s because Obama’s answers did not square with Fox’s conservative narrative.

Stewart calls out Fox News:
