Olbermann: ‘Fatuous, condescending lunatic’ Cheney failed to prevent 9/11

Raw Story- David Edwards and Muriel Kane

The eight years of Dick Cheney’s memorable vice-presidency will be over and done with two weeks from now, but MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann remains determined to get in his parting shots at “Crazy Vice-President Gate.”

On Monday, Olbermann found his opportunity in Cheney’s remarks on Face the Nation when asked whether we are better off than eight years ago.

“I think we’ve done some very good things in the course of the last eight years,” Cheney replied. “Defending the country against further terrorist attacks like 9/11 I think’s a major accomplishment, for example.”

Olbermann was clearly offended by Cheney’s claim that preventing another 9/11 meant the nation was now better off than before 9/11, but it was the remarks which followed that really got him steamed.

“There’s no question about what the new administration … are going to have their hands full with,” Cheney went on to say. “The new set of problems, if you will, centered especially on the economy … just as our task when we came in was ultimately to deal with the aftermath of 9/11.”

“Listen, you fatuous, condescending lunatic,” Olbermann erupted. “Your task was not to deal with the aftermath of 9/11 — it was to prevent 9/11.”

“And if you utterly whiffed,” concluded Olbermann, “on the most important test of all the presidencies in your lifetime, Mr. Cheney, you do not get credit for getting a C on the pop quizzes that followed.”

The new embassy, already underway in early 2005, was not mentioned in the main stream media at the time, and was supposedly a secret. I didn’t see anything on Google untill 2006, but it was underway by May 11, 2005 when funding was signed by congress under an emergency supplemental appropriation, (H.R. 1268/P.L. 109-13), which included $592 million for embassy construction.

The position of Ambassador to Iraq was initially filled by John Negroponte, who served from May 2004 to March 2005. On April 5, Secretary Rice announced President Bush’s intention to nominate Zalmay Khalilzad (formerly the Ambassador toAfghanistan) as the new U.S. Ambassador to Iraq; this appointment requiredSenate confirmation.

Guess who the emcee for the dedication of the  (cough cough)  new embassy is?  Yep, you guessed it and he can be seen in todays presentation on  CNN VIDEO.

Vail Chairlift Accident Leaves Man Dangling Pantless (PHOTOS)

HuffPo- Katharine Zaleski   |   January 6, 2009 10:19 AM

If you think people laugh at your skiing skills then think again. A man was put into a precarious and undoubtedly embarrassing position while skiing with his child at Vail mountain last Friday.

According to reports:

the chairlift’s fold-down seat was not in the correct lowered-down position – causing the man to partially fall through the resulting gap as he attempted to board the lift.

He was prevented from plummeting to the ground below by his right ski, which became jammed in the ascending lift.

Levi Johnston Quits Job; Palin Denies Involvement

The Huffington Post |  Rachel Weiner   |   January 6, 2009 08:42 AM

The Anchorage Daily News reports that Levi Johnston, the father of Bristol Palin’s new baby, has quit his job:

Levi Johnston, the teenager planning to marry Gov. Sarah Palin’s daughter, Bristol, has quit his North Slope oil field job over questions about his eligibility to participate in an electrical apprenticeship program, Johnston’s father said Monday.
Johnston this fall began working at the Milne Point oil field through the ASRC Energy Services apprenticeship program.

In a Sunday editorial in the paper, Dan Fagan questioned whether Gov. Sarah Palin helped Johnston skirt requirements to get the gig.

Israel escalates offensive into Gaza cities

GAZA CITY (AFP) – Israeli tanks and helicopter gunships went blazing into towns across the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, attacking Hamas targets and searching for its leaders as the war death toll approached 600.

Troops fought Islamist militants around the back alleys of Gaza’s main city in the heaviest fighting of the 11-day-old offensive to halt rocket attacks on Israel. Hamas made its deepest rocket strike yet into Israel.

On the diplomatic front, Arab nations pressed the case for a UN Security Council resolution condemning the onslaught, but Israel rejected ceasefire calls by French President Nicolas Sarkozy and other leaders.

“Europe must open its eyes,” President Shimon Peres told an EU ministerial delegation that demanded a truce. “We are not in the business of public relations or improving our image. We are fighting against terror and we have every right to defend our citizens.”
