Friday Poll: 54% Favor Impeachment for Cheney!

by GEF @ 6:30 PM EDT

Poll: 54 percent favor Cheney impeachment.

According to a recent poll taken by the American Research Group, “54% of American adults want the US House of Representatives to begin impeachment proceedings against Vice President Dick Cheney, including 76% of Democrats, 17% of Republicans, and 51% of Independents. The same poll found 46% of voters in favor of the same thing for President George W. Bush, including 69% of Democrats, 13% of Republicans, and 50% of independents.”

Think Progress–>

There’s a Survey out there with even worse news for the GOP.
A Huge Majority of Independents gone to DEMs..The GOP should be trembling in their boots at that news…
Oh and whatever they try we’ll be ready for them on Election day/night…We’re going to have a Storm of Lawyers at the Polls and on Retainer ready to litigate! They’re not going to steal the Vote in 2008. They may try, but they will fail…Miserably.
Bring it on Rove we got your corruption right here! 😉

Bein’ Prezident’s Hard Work

by- Suzie-Q @ 1:51 PM MST

Photo- LOL President

George W. Bush has racked up an impressive 802 days at either Camp David or his “ranch” in Crawford, Texas — only the famously lazy Ronald Reagan wasted more time at Camp David than our current idiot.

Today, Bush Junior has already arrived for yet another long weekend at the Maryland mountain retreat, where he’ll engage in the usual pursuits of riding his little bike around, falling off, and watching televised sports.

Reagan spent all or part of 517 days at Camp David, which was named for magician David Copperfield, and if Bush spends another hundred-plus days up there he’ll break Reagan’s record. And he could do it, if he’d only spend every weekend and holiday up there between now and when he’s hauled off to be tried for war crimes in Germany. But Bush is a pussy — “He doesn’t like the cold,” according to the Baltimore Sun — so he avoids the place during winter.

PSA: Scam Alert from the FBI!

by GEF @ 3:12 PM EDT

Pubic Service Announcement:

Jury Duty Scam

This has been verified by the FBI (Their link is also included below). It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take those summons for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty, that a new and ominous kind of scam has surfaced. The caller claims to be a jury coordinator.

If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and bingo, your identity just got stolen. The scam has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma, Illinois and Colorado. This (scam) is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they’re with the court system.

The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud

A new video released Friday morning makes a three-part case for the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney. Robert Greenwald and Brave New Films released the short film at their website ImpeachCheney.org.

The video comes the same day that a polling firm found a majority of Americans supporting impeachment of the Vice President. American Research Group, in a poll of 1,100 respondents taken from July 3-5, found that 54% of Americans favored impeachment. Only 17% of Republicans in the poll favored the impeachment of Cheney, while 76% of Democrats supported the move in the House of Representatives. However, of independents polled, a slight majority of 51%, also supported impeaching the Vice President.

The poll also reflected deep disapproval of President George W. Bush’s commutation of Vice President Cheney’s former chief of staff, I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby.

The Brave New Films video, which is presented below, selects key Cheney media appearances and speeches that correspond with the three allegations of ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’ that are identified in H. Res. 333. The bill was introduced by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), and accuses the Vice President of promoting false intelligence about the danger of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction programs as well as the relationship between the Saddam Hussein regime and al Qaida terrorists. It also accuses the Vice President of saber-rattling against Iran.

The film ends with Greenwald’s usual message of  “pssst…Do Something!”

Bush Administration in ‘Contempt of Congress’..

by GEF @ 11:30 PM EDT

“The Vermont Democrat described assertion of executive privilege in an investigation of official misconduct as a “further shift by the Bush administration into Nixonian stonewalling.”

It’s contempt of Congress

An editorial 7/05/2007 9:31 am

No one was all that surprised when the Bush administration announced last week that it would not cooperate with congressional demands for documents and testimony by prominent former officials that would likely confirm this White House’s reckless disregard for the rule of law.

What was surprising, and encouraging, was the decisiveness with which key players in Congress responded.

The times they are a changin~Bob Dylan 1965

by Geezer Power …7:37 AM PDT

Some called him the prophet back in those times. His name was Robert Zimmerman and he was an admirer of the poet Dylan Thomas. He is now more well known than Dylan Thomas, and writes some fine poetry himself.

I had the privalige of seeing him in performance on the UC Berkley campus in those early days. Joan Baez, a friend and fan of his was setting a couple rows in front of us.

ALBUQUERQUE Rep. John Doolittle, a conservative California congressman, today joined others in his party rapidly deserting the president on the Iraq war.

At a town hall meeting in Rocklin and then in a meeting with the editorial board of the Sacramento Bee he questioned whether the conflict was worth the loss of more American lives. He said U.S. troops should be pulled back from the front lines “as soon as possible” and the fighting turned over to Iraqi forces.

A longtime supporter of the war, Doolittle called the situation in Iraq a “quagmire” on Thursday. “We’ve got to get off the front lines as soon as possible,” Doolittle said at Rocklin City Hall, the Bee reported. “And in my mind that means something like the end of the year. We just can’t continue to tolerate these kinds of losses.

“I don’t want to keep having our people dying on the front lines. I am increasingly convinced that we never are going to succeed in actually ending people dying (in Iraq). I think it’s going to be a constant conflict … and if that is going to happen … it needs to be the Iraqis dying and not the Americans.”

Later he told the Bee’s editorial board: “My belief is that the majority of my colleagues on the Republican side have become skeptical of all of this. And that’s a big change.”

The New York Times reports on comments made by former Vice-president Gore on the commutation of Scooter Libby’s sentence:

“I thought it was improper,” Mr. Gore said of the decision. “He was charged with knowledge that could incriminate his bosses in the White House, which included the vice president and the president. I thought it was very disappointing.”

Mr. Gore said the Libby pardon differed from the Clinton administration’s pardons “because in this case the person involved is charged with activities that involve knowledge of what his superiors in the White House did.”

As for 2008, Mr. Gore said he doubted he would be a candidate again ever. Asked to talk about some of the current candidates in the Democratic field — including Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton — he demurred. That response, too, for any possible endorsement at this point (remember his backing of Howard Dean?).
