Stocks Plummet on Subprime Lender Woes

By S-Q @ 5:24 pm MDT

NEW YORK — Stocks plunged Tuesday, driving the Dow Jones industrials down more than 240 points to their second-biggest drop in almost four years, as troubles piled up for subprime lenders.

Investors, bracing for a wilting economy, fled the already deflated subprime mortgage sector on more news that lenders New Century Financial Corp., Accredited Home Lenders Holding Co. and General Motors Acceptance Corp.’s residential unit are facing financial problems. The Mortgage Bankers Association bolstered the belief that the struggles are widespread after it said new foreclosures surged to an all-time high in the last quarter of 2006.

All three major stock indexes were knocked down about 2 percent.

“The market’s still jittery, and they’re starting to get full-blown concerns over a bleed in the larger subprime mortgage market,” said Matt Kelmon, portfolio manager of the Kelmoore Strategy Funds.

Iraq War Casualties

By Basheert @ 4:38pm MDT

I have been following this website for months – at first, it was “just” a website, but it now serves as a daily reminder of what this Administration is doing to our young men and women it has deemed to be hamburger for the Bush meatgrinder.

Watch it climb, daily, and frequently moment by moment.

Rough Justice by Andrew Cohen

By Basheert @ 2:25pm MDT

Andrew Cohen (of the Washington Post) has written an in depth series on what makes our 80th Attorney General, Abu Gonzales tick. In Part 1, he begins his thorough expose on Abu Gonzales and his machinations since he was appointed Attorney General and why he is such a willing accomplice to this corrupt Administration and White House.

Cohen goes into great detail to explain Abu’s extensive history of cronyism in Texas as Bush’s lawyer and a serious attempt to explain exactly who this man is, and why he does what he does. It was obvious to many individuals from the beginning, that Abu Gonzales owed his allegiance solely to this Corrupt Administration.

This is the first of a 4 part series on Abu Gonzales. I will post the articles as they are published.

Another Scapegoat

By @ 8:56 am HST

The House of Cards continues to dissemble. Here’s the link to the resignation of Gonzales aide who “forgot to discuss with Harriet Miers”….

Our old friend is back, even after she’s gone. So I guess that means they can get two scapegoats for the price of one. Do they think that if they find enough saps to fire the press will move on to the next scandal before the AG – also named AG – has to resign under fire?

Here’s the link.

PS: The print copy of Time mag with evil empire man on the cover does have a very nice little sidebar about our PJF, with picture. He’s in Chicago with upcoming trials. We’re with ya!

Attorney Firings and Rove’s Footprints (WaPO)

By Basheert @ 11:10 am MDT

Last night on Countdown, Keith Olbermann commented that Abu Gonzales has never stopped being ONLY Bush’s lawyer in spite of his position as AG. He also commented that Abu’s ONLY qualification for the office of Attorney General was that his initials matched his office.

It is now becoming obvious that this Administration, in spite of its promises to the American People that it would bring ethics back into the White House, is one of the nastiest and most corrupt batch of individuals to ever darken Washington D.C.

Indeed, Mr. Bush and his Swamp Snakes will undoubtedly go down in history as the WORST President ever. His antics, machinations, and total disregard for the law will condemn him to the trash bin of Presidents Past. He will be remembered as the head of “Idiots on Parade”.

The only good thing this Administration has accomplished is the apparent demise of the current Republican Party (which bears absolutely no resemblance to the actual Republican Party). Having no perception of what his antics will do to the party, The Shrub goes merrily along, pretending everything is just peachy and people will put up with him because he’s such a winner.

In reality, Mr. Bush is a joke, a tragic joke that has befallen our country. The latest WH actions on Abu Gonzales and the trail leading to the WH and Karl Rove’s interference with Federal Attorneys is detailed in an article in today’s Washington Post

Clinton says Bush must explain firing of US attorneys

By S-Q @ 10:38 am MDT

Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) is calling on President Bush to explain the firings of US attorneys, days after the White House admitted that White House adviser Karl Rove acted as a conduit for complaints about federal prosecutors.

“With the White House now acknowledging a direct role in the Justice Department’s U.S. Attorney firings, the president must affirmatively step forward to explain what he is doing to address the politicization of our prosecutorial system and what role he and his aides played in this controversy,” Clinton said in a statement sent to RAW STORY.

President Bush “is the chief executive of the country and this matter goes to the heart of his ability to manage our federal law enforcement and U.S. Attorney system,” Clinton added.
