Poll: Obama outperformed McCain in debate

WASHINGTON — Democrat Barack Obama’s debate performance Friday night reinforced voter views of him as a candidate of change and appears to have had little impact on Republican John McCain’s standing in the presidential race, according to a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll.

The poll, taken Saturday, found 63% of those surveyed watched the first debate in Oxford, Miss. By 46%-34%, those who watched said Obama did a better job than McCain. Obama led McCain, 52%-35%, when they were asked which candidate offered the best proposals for change to solve the country’s problems.

ANALYSIS: Debate draws familiar battlelines
FACT CHECK: A look at key claims made in debate

In the area of national defense and foreign policy, McCain’s strong suit, the debate appeared to have little impact. About a third of viewers said it gave them more confidence in each man on that front; slightly less in each case said it gave them less confidence.

Obama’s margin in the poll is not as large as the advantage Democrat John Kerry had after the first debate in 2004. Then, the poll showed Kerry to have done better than President Bush by 57%-25%. Kerry went into the debates behind in national polls, while Obama had a slim lead.

The American news and the world economic crisis is rather scary. We have been hit badly now. The stocks plummeted yesterday , God knows whets happening today.Could one single man or system have brought this upon the world, or was it a serious defect in the financial systems across the world who were in the job of speculations and high risk loans ? I do believe it is the latter. The get rich quick investors are now shedding crocodile tears. Who asked them to buy stocks in the first place. Was there necessity other than greed ? Objectively, a financial system in crisis has a snow ball effect. It hits every aspect of our lives. We all have bad days ahead.

As for the American elections. Whoever wins one thing is clear. The animosity , the sexism in US politics is disgusting . We saw Hillary being pilloried and now Palin is …there has been incomparable negative media publicity of these two women which has really struck me hard.Which candidates are capable is a matter of national interest, surely , but this has gone beyond everything. The denigration, the attempt to pull to pieces , the belittling, the slander, the disparaging reporting on Hillary and Sarah is outrageous and deplorable . No such scorn has been heaped on O , or M or that clown Biden.

    THATS my issue.
THATS the truth , which I will remember !!!
