Dean says attacks getting too personal, wants closure by July 1

Democratic Party chief Howard Dean says Barack Obama, Hillary Rodham Clinton and their supporters should beware of tearing each other down, demoralizing the base and damaging the party’s chances of winning the White House in November.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Dean also said he hopes the Democratic nominee will be determined shortly after the voting ends in early June and that he will encourage the superdelegates who will play a role to make up their minds before the August convention in Denver. The 2004 presidential candidate told CBS News that he wants closure by the first of July.

Sen. Patrick Leahy is suggesting that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton abandon her White House run.
The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and six-term Vermont lawmaker said there is no way that Clinton is going to win enough pledged delegates to get the nomination. Leahy told Vermont Public Radio, in a show that aired Thursday, that Clinton ought to withdraw and should be backing Sen. Barack Obama. But Leahy said that’s obviously a decision only Clinton can make.
Dodd: Prolonged Democratic race ‘devastating’

Sen. Chris Dodd said Thursday a protracted Democratic presidential race would be “devastating” to the party, and argued an agreement should be worked out after the upcoming contests in Pennsylvania, Indiana, and North Carolina.
Dodd, a former presidential candidate and current backer of Barack Obama’s White House bid, told the National Journal he thinks it’s a forgone conclusion Obama will be the Democratic presidential nominee, and said he thinks it’s about time party leaders bring the race to a conclusion.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania endorsed on Friday Barack Obama’s campaign for the Democratic nomination for president in a boost for the Illinois senator.
Obama aides said Casey would appear later at an Obama campaign event in Pennsylvania, where the candidate is vying with New York Sen. Hillary Clinton for support in the April 22 primary election.

Senator and 2008 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton (D-NY) has taken her message to Fox News.
“Nobody should be writing obituaries on this race, because it is a long way from being over,” Senator Clinton tells Greta Van Susteren during a recent interview. Clinton says she will leave it to voters to ultimately decide who is the Democratic nominee.
On being asked why she is pursuing the presidency, Clinton responds: “Because I love my country.
