A federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., issued a preliminary order on Tuesday directing the Bush administration to preserve any evidence that might show that a former Baltimore resident was tortured during his three years in secret CIA detention.
The order, by a three-judge panel of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, gave the government until Dec. 20 to respond to a court filing last week that accused the CIA of torturing Majid Khan, 27.
Khan is among 15 high-value detainees who once were held by the CIA but are now in military custody at the prison camp for suspected terrorists at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Khan’s lawyers requested the court action last week, after CIA Director Michael Hayden acknowledged that the agency had destroyed videotapes of the interrogations of two other Guantanamo detainees who, like Khan, had spent years in secret CIA custody.
Khan, who was a legal U.S. resident and graduated from a suburban Baltimore high school, hasn’t been charged with a crime. Pentagon officials claim that he was assigned by the reputed mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, to research “the poisoning of U.S. water reservoirs and the possibility of blowing up gas stations.”
Of the 15 captives formerly held by the CIA, only Khan has been allowed to see his attorneys.
Good Morning/Afternoon Justice Bloggers!
Bush says he didn’t know…. yeah, right! What do you think?

ABC News’ Martha Raddatz Reports: In an exclusive interview with ABC News President Bush said Tuesday he did not know about the destruction of CIA videotapes of detainee interrogations.
The President said he was told just a few days ago.

Fitz:
I think this one is for you… hehe
Another piece of evidence for W’s Treason Trial.
That’s real nice…
GEF:
Yes, it is gonna be nice to watch those evildoers sweat!
LOL
There was a caller on NPR yesterday who claimed to have worked for the CIA or NSA a few years ago and said waterboarding wasn’t torture and said that the Muslims beheading people online were the real torturers. He also inferred that the US is right in becoming as bad as the terrorists because “we are” gaining good info from the “mild” torture tactics of waterboarding.
This was scary for the fact that in my mind, there are actually people out there who believe we should give up the rest of our freedoms for “security”, probably alot more than this guy and his call confirmed it.
If anyone has any doubt about the seriousness of the situation facing us, there’s no hope for you and you’ll end up in a prison “gulag”. Garuanteed! 8-(
SQ…In short, I could believe that Duhhhbya didn’t know because he really doesn’t know squat! A sad commentary I know, but we’re going down the tubes on the lies parroted by the village idiot… ):
Even if he did know, it would be insane for them not to have destroyed the tapes. Anybody who thinks that the tapes wouldn’t have made it to the public for a couple of bucks if they were made available to congress needs a quick history lesson in recent events.
There are things that are necessary and need to be done to ensure the safety and security of the people of this country, and people do not need to know about all of it. I would like to know what, if anything, can be gained by this other than using the tapes for personal or party political gain?
Believe it or not…The truth will set you free.
An ideology based on a lie is not a Democracy. Can you pronounce Fascism…G:
Geezer:
You mean Dubya has lied to us? OMG!
LOLMAO
SQ…Yep Duhbby lied, and probably didn’t even know it. He was just parroting the words coming in through his ear piece. Such is life in the evil empire…
Heehehehehe
So, was it Darth Vader speaking in that ear piece? It was something like…
“Dubya, I am your Father and Babs is your Mother!”
ROFLMAO
who will the truth set free? I have always lived with the understanding that if no good can come from telling the truth, then don’t say anything at all, but don’t lie if directly asked and only ever answer the question directly without volunteering anything unnecessary.
There are simply things that the public need not know about. That doesn’t mean anybody needs to lie, but parading our secrets out in the open for all to see is unwise. Not only is it a threat to our security, it is also a threat to all those involved. Do you not think that the people on the tapes would be targeted along with their families for their supposed “crimes?” Or worse yet, what if they were made scapegoats by the boobs in congress a’la Scooter Libby? Innocent people doing their jobs do not deserve to be put in any position where they are living in fear.
Ya know? Everything that I just read here makes no sense at all to me, and I don’t ever plan to adopt the Machiavallian ideology. The innocent citizens of America do not deserve to be exploited by a bunch of egocentric corporate evil doers…G:
There is another way to look at this issue too, Phrenology Guy. If someone who commits murder hides the weapon then they can be proven guilty by association because they hid the evidence…G:
