NEW YORK It’s not the first time that citizen “investigative journalists” have uncovered some embarrassing, or telling, nugget from the past that apparently remained buried for years. But it has happened again with the posting of a now wildly popular video on YouTube that shows Dick Cheney explaining in 1994 that trying to take over Iraq would be a “bad idea” and lead to a “quagmire.”
The people who put it up come from a site called Grand Theft Country, the on-screen source appears to be the conservative American Enterprise Institute, and the date on the screen is April 15, 1994. That looks right, by the look of Cheney.
Posted on Friday, it had received over 100,000 hits by this morning, after being widely-linked around the Web. The transcript of this segment is below.
Cheney had helped direct the Gulf War for President George H.W. Bush. That effort was later criticized for not taking Baghdad and officials like Cheney had to explain why not for years. Some have charged that this led to an overpowering desire to finish the job after Cheney became vice president in 2001.

You don’t say Darth Cheney?
Nothing like Karma to come back and bite you in the rear-end!
S-q,
He had more hair then and better sense then…
It must be that stale air in the Bunker that’s made him bitter and stupid!
What a coward…
Bwahahahahaha!
GEF:
He is a true Chickenhawk…
FIVE Deferments!
Sue,
He had “more important priorities”.
As if the boys who were drafted in the Vietnam War didn’t!
Nothing like Karma to come back and bite you in the rear-end!
Indeed! Karma’s a bitch, but only when people are paying attention.
Unfucking believable, Suzie-Q.
Thank you for posting this. I’ve linked to it and given you a H/T.
I guess that Daddy Bush wouldn’t let the Dick go after the oil back then.
God Bless.
I caught this on Chris’ blog. I say the same here:
As a veteran of more than a few ‘free-for-alls’ I can tell you a good left feint to the gut can pay dividends toward landing a solid right-cross!
Being the hardened NWO advocate he is, his partisanship would easily extend back to that time, and to their agenda. He was as in favor of an invasion then as now.
Thanks Christopher! This needs to be spread all over the net…
do ya think Faux Noise will report it?
LOL
He was obviously being handled then. We’ve all seen what he’s like on his own.
What’s Cheney like on his own?
I’m sure he snacks on live virgin entrails and babies while studying the Bible.
“the date on the screen is April 15, 2004.”
Just pointing out a typo, Suzi-Q. Think you mean 1994.
I had read the transcript of this before and pointed it out to right wingers, who simply shrug and say, “9/11 changed everything”.
Green:
Thanks! I had copied and pasted it as it was originally written on the article. They apparently found their error later and I changed it!
I agree with Highway on this one. Cheney is a power freak and he would have promoted invasion then, but didn’t have things in place. He needed that Neocon puppet, the son of a Bu$h that would enable him to go to war.
Suzie-Q,
Look at this. One of my regular readers passed it along. Dovetails with this video:
Hackers found evidence of US Vice President Dick Cheney’s corruption
http://english.pravda.ru/world/americas/02-06-2004/5791-cheney-0
Vice president of the USA Dick Cheney used the war in Iraq to gain profitable contracts for Halliburton company whose executive director he was before taking the office in the White House.
Unidentified hacker broke Pentagon’s mail programs and submitted the correspondence to the Time magazine. This mail is the evidence of the Vice President’s involvement in Halliburton’s signing a number of contracts for restoration Iraqi oil industry.
According to the Guardian, the total sum of the contracts are $17 billion dollars.
Mr. Cheney who was the CEO of Halliburton for 5 years, said many times that he abandoned all his previous business contacts, but his published correspondence discredits this statement.
In the letter from March 5, 2003 unidentified Army official says that he sees no problems for “signing the contract (with Halliburton) as this matter has been settled with the Vice President’s office”. The Guardian wrote that the other possible contractors were not even considered.
Did the Dick say anything about depleted uranium in ’94?

You would see pieces “of Iraq flying off???”
Jeez, they went in knowing it would all fall apart.

This war is profitable for Cheney and his buddies…

Awesome…Damning evidence against the Chain, assuming that Time doesn’t have the only copies of the emails…G:
Hope you don’t mind if I posted this on my blog…with references , of course.
What is really sad is that we knew about this footage many moons ago and many Americans did too. We need to stop reacting to situations and start becoming more pro-active.
The current Administration is by far the most corrupt, organized criminal operation in the history of the United States. Further, America’s place is in the world is damaged. And if you think that a Democratic party with Hillary Clinton will change the situation in our country, you are dead wrong.
This country is run by oligarchs. NO different than the former communist Soviet Union and the newly minted Russia under the strangehold of Putin — Bush and Putin are ONE AND THE SAME. Wake up America.
The two-party system is corrupt and designed to ensure the “same policies” are implemented. With a guaranteed low voter turn-out, you can guarantee the politicians get a free and easy ride.
This is a sad time for America. Saddam was wiped out by neo-cons to hide the dirty, corrupt foreign policies of the Bush Administration(s) and America in general.
And now Bush is rumoured to be priming his targets on Iran. The “New York Disinfo Times” is now prepping the public with “Iran-supplied bombs killing US troops” thread to justify attacks.
We posted it on our blog the other day but are glad it’s spreading. We really are at their mercy. The ‘theory of impeachment’ is just that — a nice theory. But these men should go to jail.
